Introduction

The Ancient Greek aphorism "Know thyself", was inscribed in the forecourt of the Temple of Apollo at Delphi. In many ways this profound and sage advice given thousands of years ago could stand as the maxim under which all those seeking 'enlightenment' expend their energies. So the question is, do you know yourself? Can you answer the question: "who am I?" If you can then perhaps you are clear sighted enough to understand the essence of your mind. But it is also possible that you are falling into one or more of the numerous flaws in understanding that can fool you into a false understanding of who you are.

I should warn you before we continue that dedicating any serious amount of time trying to answer this question is likely to take you to places you never thought you could go; and once you have started on this road, there is no turning back. You may find that the once solid boundaries between self and other, between the real and the un-real, between even life and death, begin to look less solid. The question of who you are is as engrossing as it is perplex. If there is one thing for certain, it will change your life forever.
